The history books contain many references to the horse as prey some 50,000 years ago, when Cro-Magnon man had to hunt for his food. Seems that no one knows for sure just when or how the horse first became a helper to man. But many have reasoned that when early Cro-Magnon man needed to move his encampments from place to place, he started using the more docile horses as pack animals. So that would mark the beginnings of horse domestication.

It is usually cheaper to keep your own horse, than to have some one look after your horse. Not everyone has a pasture or field in their back yard. If you know of some one with horses you could approach them and see if there is room for one more. This could cost less than having to board your horse at a stable and or riding facility. If you have no place to keep your horse, you should research stables in your area. Doing some investigation could save you money. Some stables charge a set monthly fee and your horse is taken care of completely. All you have to do is arrive and mount up, after riding you can simply hand your horse over to a groom and go home. This set up is not cheap and not always necessary, so consider how much involvement you would like with your horse at a stable.

The American Quarter Horse is the first breed of horse native to the United States. The breed evolved when the bloodlines of horses brought to the New World were mixed. Foundation American Quarter Horse stock originated from Arab, Turk and Barb breeds. Selected Stallions and Mares were crossed with horses brought to Colonial America from England and Ireland in the 1600’s. This combination resulted in a compact, heavily muscled horse that evolved to fill the colonists passion for short distance racing.

The horse blanket was created for functional use, to be placed under the saddle as an extra cushion, or to be used when a saddle was not available or not necessary. When riding without a saddle, the blanket can soak up sweat or dirt from the horse to prevent or reduce transfer onto your clothing and makes the ride a bit more comfortable for the animal.
